One of the things I have been working on with the new NCC Board is themes for the early work of the new organisation. Obviously some things write themselves in – fuel poverty over winter and with price rises on the cards, whether rice will be rationed and the last days of post office closures etc. But the leading options we have boiled down to:
– value and people feeling the squeeze
– service (and if it is not right, why do we put up with it?)
– access to essential services
Most likely, we will work on each of these, and sustainability too, over time, but the concensus seems to be that ‘value’ is the one that needs to be top of our early agenda. I agree, it is heartland consumer territory and we need to focus on making a practical difference, particularly to people hard pressed as the price of basics rise.
