Let’s not go Japanese

Anyone who’s interested in the question of how we avoid turning Japanese – i.e. how we get out of the economic hole that we’ve dug – will be interested in Adam Posen’s excellent speech of a few days ago.

  1. I lived in Japan for a year in 2000 right at the end of the ‘Lost Decade’. I remember everyone bemoaning the state of the economy but it still looked and felt far wealthier, happier and more prosperous than the UK.
